The Earth-Humanity Coalition (EHC) is a global initiative established in 2024 in response to the United Nations General Assembly’s proclamation of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024–2033). The Coalition operates as a collaborative platform designed to mobilize scientific and societal knowledge in support of sustainable development, with a particular focus on transdisciplinary approaches that bridge traditional academic boundaries.

The central objective of the Earth-Humanity Coalition consists in fostering cooperation among diverse knowledge communities, including natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering, policy actors, and civil society. The initiative promotes the integration of academic research with practical experience and local knowledge systems, including indigenous and community-based forms of expertise. This approach reflects that contemporary global challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, social inequality, and resource governance, cannot be adequately addressed through disciplinary science alone.

The core objectives of the Earth-Humanity Coalition are:

1. Mobilise Transdisciplinary Knowledge
EHC aims to bring together all forms of knowledge, including basic sciences, applied sciences, social sciences, humanities, traditional and indigenous knowledge, and citizen contributions to address complex global challenges in sustainable development.

2. Build a Global Network of Hubs
The Coalition seeks to co-create a worldwide network of thousands of transdisciplinary hubs operating at local, national, regional, and global levels. These hubs are intended to be active in research, innovation, and action toward equitable human well-being on a healthy planet.

3. Reform Research and Knowledge Production
It emphasises co-designed and co-produced research that integrates different types of knowledge with practical, society-anchored perspectives. The goal is to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries and bring science into closer alignment with societal needs.

4. Contribute to the International Decade on Sciences for Sustainable Development
EHC explicitly positions itself as a support mechanism for the UN-declared decade, promoting transdisciplinarity as a practical strategy to tackle sustainability challenges and implement the associated agenda.

5. Promote a “Culture of Well-Being”
Part of the Coalition’s vision is to encourage a new culture that values collective responsibility, equity, creativity, and cooperation among scientists, policymakers, citizens, and other stakeholders for planetary habitability and human welfare.
